# Default Password

If you use the Employee endpoints to create a new employee record in your portal, the API will assign a default password for the employee. The default password is controlled by a portal level backend setting and cannot be updated using the API. If you need to verify the value of this backend setting please log a case with Global Customer Support. If this backend setting has no value, the API will not set a password for the user. In such instances, the user will need to reset their password using the 'Forgot Password' option.
